The Princeton International Regatta Association

In the fall of 2001, the International Federation of Rowing (FISA) authorized Mercer Lake, in West Windsor, NJ to be the site for the first-ever Rowing World Cup to be held in the U.S. The Zurich Rowing World Cup, sponsored by Zurich Financial Services in Switzerland, is an annual, world-class event that is traditionally held in Europe.

The Princeton International Regatta Association (PIRA), host of the World Cup, hired Thomas/Boyd Communications to develop a public relations program to generate positive media coverage and encourage people to attend the event. Event attendance numbers and media coverage exceeded original projections. Coverage included the top television networks, the Associated Press, feature articles in the New York Times, International publications and a 30-minute documentary produced by New Jersey Network. A total of 11,302,729 impressions throughout the U.S. were secured.
