Thomas/Boyd provided communications counsel and support for a massive, mixed-use retail/residential community in a South Jersey suburb. The proposed community, with Smart Growth Redevelopment designation, faced opposition from neighboring residents and skepticism from business groups and the news media. The multi-faceted communications approach included media relations tactics such as backgrounder sessions with key media contacts, and the distribution of news releases to make the media and public aware of project developments. A business and community outreach program helped educate these important audiences about the project benefits, provided a forum for open dialog, and reassurance. The strategic communications program played an integral role in obtaining the support needed to receive necessary project approvals.
