Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission Marks Century of Change Driven by Tech, Testing

The public utility, which serves Merchantville, Pennsauken, parts of Camden City and Cherry Hill, and provides oversight of water operations in Collingswood, is celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2026. Much has changed in its 100-year history, which spans the days of delivering artesian well water by horse and buggy to those of networked operations capable of eliminating contaminants in the water supply at sub-microscopic levels. Director of Engineering Rich Spafford says its independent operation and focus on infrastructure improvements keep rates low and quality high at a time when both challenge operators.
