Inside 20-Year Effort to Build Houses in Pinelands

Developer Bielat Santore & Co. is seeking approval for phase one of the Liberty Woods residential community after working for nearly two decades to get the project started.

The proposed 55+ community, located in the Pinelands in Pemberton, would bring roughly 561 units, nearly 900 residents and an estimated surplus of $1.67 million in tax revenue to the township. The project would be developed on a portion of land that the state selected for development for regional growth and would use only 170 of the 695 eligible acres that were approved to build on.

Bielat Santore & Co. received a general development approval for the project in June 2007 — it is valid until 2026.
